Earlier this month, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez threatened to punish NFL team owners who didn’t offer a job to self-appointed victim Colin Kaepernick by taxing their income at her proposed “tippy top” tax bracket of 70%. She didn’t explain whether the penalty would be lifted for all owners if one offered him a job, but now we won’t have to find out. The onetime San Fancisco 49ers starting quarterback has received an offer to play professional football again.
The offer came not from the NFL but was tendered by the new Alliance of American Football, which had its debut last weekend. As the Associated Press reports via USA Today:
The Alliance says its mission is to provide opportunities for players not in the NFL to continue their careers, with a possibility they could entice NFL teams to sign them once the AAF season concludes at the end of April.
So Kaepernick be ecstatic right? Despite the lasting damage his victimist posturing has done to the sport of football, here he is being given a chance to play again. So how thrilled is he? So much so that he said he is willing to play for the new league but only on the condition that they paid him $20 million. For a league that gives players a three-year, non-guaranteed $250,000 contract, it’s a little on the steep side.
To put Kaepernick’s chutzpah in even more vivid perspective, consider that future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, who just earned his sixth Super Bowl ring, receives an annual salary of $15 million.
Has there ever been a bigger doofus than Kaepernick?
