For some time now, the mainstream media have been in a state of denial. Each time a new bombshell is dropped, threatening to topple the house of cards the Left built to justify the Mueller investigation into allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, the press comes out with a new version of the dog-ate-my-homework defense.
Now they have taken their duplicity to new heights. On Monday, CBS News ran a piece based on an Associated Press “fact check” with the intention of explaining away the damaging allegations arising out of Saturday’s release of a heavily redacted but still somewhat informative copy of the FISA application documents on Carter Page.
The “fact check” displays contempt not only for President Trump but for Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, whose group has been instrumental in bringing the real facts to light.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The entire CBS document is worth reading for its perverse entertainment value, but there is one paragraph in particular that merits serious attention. It is this one:
It’s … not correct to call the Steele dossier a “Clinton Campaign document.” Steele was hired by Fusion GPS, a private research firm that in turn was hired by a law firm that represented the Democratic campaign. But Clinton’s closest aides said they didn’t learn about the research until after the election, which is probable considering they never raised the allegations publicly.
For CBS to claim at this late date that the Clinton campaign had nothing to do with the Steele dossier is to take Americans for fools. The facts of team Clinton’s connection with the dossier was established as early as Oct. 24, 2017, when the New York Times wrote:
The presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee paid for research that was included in a dossier made public in January that contained salacious claims about connections between Donald J. Trump, his associates and Russia.
A spokesperson for a law firm [of Perkins Coie] said on Tuesday that it had hired Washington-based researchers last year to gather damaging information about Mr. Trump on numerous subjects — including possible ties to Russia — on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the D.N.C.
