Here is why we can’t have nice things as a country. Last Thursday, seniors from Santa Fe High School were invited to Game 5 of the Rockets Western Conference Finals, along with first responders to the deadly shooting that had occurred there a week earlier.

According to Houston station KHOU:

Before the game, the team held a moment of silence to honor the victims of the school shooting.

The NBA shared a picture of students holding hands during that moment on its Twitter page.

The picture is shown at the top of this page.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The following day, someone who goes by Twitter handle JARBAS retweeted the photo along with a question that reveals he is either thinking way too much or not nearly enough:

The day after that, his question was answered, and then some:

In a sane world, that would have been the end of it. The questioner, duly chastened would have either slunk off with his tail between his legs or come away from a wiser man. We do not live in a sane world. Here’s what followed:
