While some spend Memorial Day at cookouts or the beach and others desecrate the tombstones at a veteran’s cemetery with swastikas, still others look for a larger meaning for the day set aside to honor our war dead. As usual, LU’s own J.E. Dyer, herself a veteran, has a thought-provoking peace on the hundredth anniversary of the day originally called Decoration Day, designating a period to visit and decorate the graves of fallen heroes.
Another writer looking for meaning is the Daily Beast’s Dean Obeidallah, who sadly if typically looks in all the wrong places. On Sunday, the columnist, who also fancies himself a comedian, issued a tweet suggesting that his fellow leftists honor those engaged in the so-called “resistance” against President Trump. “This Memorial Day weekend,” he tweeted, “lets [sic] honor the women and men who bravely sacrificed their lives fighting to protect our nation’s freedoms by RESISTING Trump’s attacks on our democracy. #TheResistance is the highest form of Patriotism!”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Clearly Obeidallah doesn’t understand the real meaning of Memorial Day or hates America so much that it has clouded his senses. Naturally, his obnoxious tweet didn’t sit too well with many.
Or, we could honor people who died on the battlefield to protect your right to be a spittle-spewing jack ass.

You don’t get to redefine a holiday honoring military veterans who sacrificed their lives for their country to one that reveres your partisan politics. Turn off your computer, visit a cemetery tomorrow, and watch “Taking Chance.”

And while you’re at it, talk to some real Americans who lost loved ones on the battlefield and see how they like your idea.
When you put your self indulgent twitter political movement on the same level as those gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, you get the left. https://t.co/Te4q2xmliz

So true.
“Dean just perfectly illustrated how low the Left will go,” Twitchy added. “So save the BS about going high when the Right goes low because NO PARTY goes as low as the Left.”
We can’t disagree with that sentiment.
One person called Obeidallah’s suggestion, “stolen valor.”
My father and his father are buried at Ft. Sam. When my other grandfather passes, he will be buried in Arlington. They were brave.
They sacrificed.
They fought.People like you have done nothing. This is stolen valor.

Um, it’s *Memorial* Day. Y’know: honoring those who’ve sacrificed their lives…? The war dead?

A real patriot wouldn’t try to steal this holiday from those that actually gave all. pic.twitter.com/VYhQkmDorg

We’ll just let that speak for itself.
