Note to readers on comments functionality at Liberty Unyielding *UPDATE*

*UPDATE* Please be advised that we have restored Disqus for the time being. We will keep the system in place until the new commenting system has been implemented and tested. Thank you for your patience.

[Original message:]

A note to our treasured readers as the weekend crowds urgently upon us.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

We’ve been working since midday Thursday on migrating from the Disqus comments platform to Spot.IM, which our gods of tech think will be a better deal all around.  Reportedly, Spot.IM is very nicely integrated with Facebook, and a lot of people like it.

This process is taking longer than expected, and we apologize for that.  If you have a Facebook account, you can still make comments in the Facebook comments section at the bottom of each post.  Until we have a dedicated comments platform back, we won’t be able to run the latest comments in the column on the right.  I know, I know.  I’ve depended on that as much as readers have.

One additional point, since we’re talking site-tech admin.  We labor as alertly as possible to turn off the most annoying ads placed by ad-bundlers at LU.  Sometimes things slip past us, and we do appreciate when you let us know about ads that are creating problems.

If you run into functionality problems that appear to be related to ads, you can do us a big favor by telling us in your first communication what kind of device you’re accessing the site on, and the OS and browser type.  So many people are using different devices now, and the site and ads don’t render the same on all of them.  There may be ads that create no problems for mobile devices, but don’t run properly on a desktop, or vice versa.

So please let us know those details, when you alert us to problems.  We take every complaint for action and run it straight to our tech-zillas.

Thanks for your patience, and see you on Spot.IM.
