The best way to teach young children civility is by example. For Breonna Turk’s sake, let’s hope that that’s not what the 24-year-old mother thought she was doing.

when she grabbed the cane out of the hand of a 71-year-old subway passenger in New York and proceeded to beat the woman senseless.

According to WNBC, Turk, who is shown above with her attorney, was waiting with her young daughter for the elevator to take them up from the subway platform to street level. When the doors opened to discharge passengers bound for the waiting the train, the little girl pushed her way into the crowd. The septuagenarian, who uses a cane, suggested that the mom “teach her child to wait when people were exiting the elevator.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

According to the police report:

The suspect then pushed and punched the victim … at one point grabbing the victim’s cane and repeatedly bashing her with it as she was on the ground.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Dinet said at Turk’s arraignment that her behavior prompted a pair of bystanders to intervene. Turk turned the cane on one of them as well.

Turk has been charged with second-degree assault. Judge Herb Moses set bail at $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash.
