Quote of the Day: ‘I don’t see a lot of people screaming Jesus Christ with hatchets’

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Michael T. Flynn, who was asked by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as his National Security Adviser, has come under fire from his own party. If you’re confused by the last seven words of that sentence, it may be because you are unaware that Flynn is a registered Democrat.

He also been a vocal critic of Barack Obama and of Islam, which in its present incarnation strikes Flynn more as “a political ideology” than a religion.

The headline quote was made by Flynn in a speech before the Dallas chapter of ACT! For America in August.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

His remarks are captured in the video that follows. A transcript appears after the video:

Islam is a political ideology, it is a political ideology. It definitely hides behind this notion of it being a religion.

And I have a very, very tough time because I don’t see a lot of people screaming ‘Jesus Christ’ with hatchets or machetes or rifles shooting up clubs or hatcheting, literally axing families on a train.

Or like they just killed a couple of police officers with a machete. I mean, it’s unbelievable. So we have a problem.

It’s like cancer. I’ve gone through cancer in my own life. And so it’s like cancer, and it’s like a malignant cancer, though in this case that has metastasized.

The remarks have come to the forefront of the news cycle in the last 24 hours and is sure to ruffle more feathers.
