Like stealing candy from a baby, only having your avaricious act preserved for posterity so everyone can see your true colors.
As of this writing, the video. posted on YouTube, has been viewed 142,000 times, but Halloween was just yesterday, and the day is young.
The poster of the video, who goes by the handle InternetLasers, writes:
Away from home, we left full-sized candy bars outside with a note, “Help yourself but be considerate!” We figured a group of kids would probably end up taking all of the candy at one point during the night, but everyone was really considerate…until this upstanding mother came to save the day.
Although the experiment appears to have been designed cynically, to catch out someone abusing an act of generosity, it is still worth a look. It provides a grim reminder that, in the view of some people, honesty is for chumps.
The saddest part of all this is not the lone child who peers into the empty candy boxes at the end and walks off treatless. It is that this mother sets such a pernicious example for her own children, who are with her and help her steal candy.
