Abortion advocates are fighting the defunding of Planned Parenthood by claiming all of the other services they offer besides killing babies, tearing apart their bodies, and selling their body parts. One of the services they claim Planned Parenthood offers is mammograms—but that is a lie.
Planned Parenthood clinics do not own a single mammogram machine. All they do is provide referrals to centers that perform mammograms. In other words, they are the “middle man.”
Former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson said that although pro-abortion advocates are claiming that if Congress de-funds Planned Parenthood women would lose access to life-saving care, this is definitely not the case since their facilities are only level-one breast cancer service centers. This means that all they can do is provide referrals for mammograms and conduct manual breast exams.
(…) She added, “We know they won’t do mammograms, but they won’t come out and make a statement. They perpetuate this lie by their silence.” Johnson’s organization, And Then There Were None, sponsored “Schedule Your Mammogram Day” to bring awareness to the fact that Planned Parenthood does not provide them.
In the past, FactCheck.org has verified that “Planned Parenthood health centers do not offer mammography,” but supporters of the organization often claim that women will lose access to mammograms if Planned Parenthood is defunded. But that’s not really true either; any doctor can give a referral to get a mammogram, and under Obamacare, they are covered by insurance. According to Heathcare.gov, health insurance must cover Breast Cancer Mammography screenings every 1 to 2 years for women over 40.
Abby Johnson said that when Miss Tennessee recently declared that defunding Planned Parenthood would cause women to lose access to mammograms, it motivated her to organize the “Schedule Your Mammogram Day” campaign.
“We know the truth already, but we’re hoping that by having people call, that it will force them to finally make a statement,” Johnson said. Johnson added that she encourages those who participate in the campaign to tell the Planned Parenthood employee to visit AbortionWorker.com, where they will find people who can help them leave the abortion industry.

The bottom line is that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration lists 8,735 licensed mammography facilities in America on their website but Planned Parenthood does not operate a single one of them. You can view the FDA list by clicking here or visit www.GetYourCare.org to find a legitimate health care center that does offer mammograms.
Mammograms are an important screening procedure for women, but defunding Planned Parenthood will not take away that necessary service from anyone.
