Your tax dollars at work: Secret Service teaching Malia Obama to drive

OK, I understand why her father can’t teach her to drive, but why is the Secret Service, an agency on the public payroll, giving the president’s daughter driving lessons? According to UPI:

Watch out Washington D.C., there is a new driver in town. Malia Obama is learning how to drive with the help of the Secret Service.

Most 16 year olds have one of their parents or a driving teacher to help them prepare for their driving test, but when your dad is the president of the United States, the circumstances are different.

“Driving for Malia, I think, gives her a sense of normalcy, like the rest of her friends are doing. And my kids have got to learn how to live in the world like normal kids,” Michelle Obama said on the Rachael Ray Show.

When the first lady sat down with Michael Strahan last year on Live with Kelly and Michael, she revealed that security would not be fond of letting the POTUS in a car with a teenager who was just learning to drive.

This year during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, the first lady told Kelly and Michael that she was stumped after her daughter asked her about parking in a public lot. After all, she hasn’t driven a car since her husband became president, seven years ago. With all kinds of security measures that the first family must abide by, Michelle said, “I barely know now, too, so I have to check with other sources.”

So apparently Michelle Obama forgot how to drive … and I guess she didn’t want to ask any of the adoring lemmings at MSNBC to help out with driving lessons. But still why is the Secret Service wasting their time and our tax dollars teaching Malia Obama to drive. Aren’t there any driving instructors who can pass a background check who the Obama’s can afford to hire?
