Video: A bullet attachment that could save lives

The orange tip makes it look like a toy, but this innovation — which intended for used with an actual handgun — gives an armed suspect a chance to live if shot. The user in the video describes it as “like an airbag for a bullet.”

It is know simply as “The Alternative” and its creator, Christian Ellis, explains that attachment makes a bullet less lethal by slowing it down and trapping it. He says more than 400 agencies and police departments have expressed an interest in it.

According to CNN, The Alternative consists essentially of a small metal ball that is clipped on the end of a gun. When the weapon  is discharged, the bullet embeds itself into the ball as it hurtles towards its target, ultimately lessen the impact.

The idea behind the invention is to give suspects a second chance to live.
