Landlord says soldier ‘overstayed,’ can’t enjoy Christmas with wife and new baby

A soldier visiting his wife for the holidays after a six-month absence and seeing his newborn daughter for the first time is being kicked out by his wife’s landlord because he’d overstayed his welcome as a “visitor.”

Sgt. William Bullock, who is stationed in Missouri, only wanted what we all want — to get home to celebrate the holidays with his family. Home for him is his wife’s apartment in Central, S.C. She is a student at nearby Clemson University, according to Fox Carolina, which reported:

Bullock said the landlord at The Groves apartment complex in Central told him he had overstayed, saying visitors are not allowed to stay in the apartments past seven days, per the agreement signed by Bullock’s wife, Lily.

The landlord, whose name is Chuck, told FOX Carolina he enforces that rule for all his tenants.

Since Bullock’s name is not on the lease, even though he is a spouse visiting, the landlord said he is not allowed to stay. Bullock said the landlord threatened to press charges and double his wife’s rent if he stayed.

“”I’m stationed in Missouri and we haven’t seen each other in six months,” Bullock told the station. “What’s the problem with me staying and visiting with my wife?”

A local attorney told the station that the lease’s “visitor” provision was vaguely written. She added that enforcement would be further problematic because Bullock is married to the lease holder.

Merry Christmas, soldier. Thank you for your service and congratulations on your baby girl. Now get the hell out.
