Picture of the Day: The walls are closing in on a clueless Obama

There was a time when the mainstream media were so invested in making the Obama presidency one for the ages that they overlooked his many limitations as a person and a leader. His faux-presidential seal? They simply refused to acknowledge its existence. Ditto for the Greek columns that limned the stage in Denver for his nomination acceptance speech. This man — the first black ever to make a serious bid for the highest office in the land — was destined for greatness. His face would join those of the other great presidents on Mt. Rushmore. Far be it from the lowly press to treat him as less than a demigod.

That was then. This is now. The scales have fallen from the eyes ofBarack Obama all but the most diehard liberals who now understand he’s not just a flesh-and-blood mortal who dons his pants one leg at a time but a pretty imperfect one at that. Sometimes he’s downright boorish.

Yesterday, as a case in point, he was forced to take time from his precious vacation to deliver a few words to the press about the brutal slaughter of an innocent American journalist by a group of bloodthirsty savages. He probably didn’t want to interrupt his R&R again, having had to make two trips back “to the office” twice since he and the family left for the Vineyard, but it’s protocol.

So he spoke. And then within nine minutes he was back on the golf links, club in hand. That isn’t just bad optics. That’s a man who is totally clueless about compassion, empathy and all the other human qualities he claims to champion.

So vile was his decision that New York’s Daily News, a newspaper that has backed him early and often, made this its front page:
