Are staff on the peacock network birthers? It would appear so when NBC White House Correspondent Chris Jansing claimed that President Barack Obama wanted to have a successful U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit because he was “from Kenya.”
Oops! Freudian slip?
MSNBC host Joy Reid provided the lead-in to Jansing’s assertion by noting Obama’s “background” during her report Tuesday.
“The White House is clearly, I assume, hoping that this will be part of the president’s legacy given his background,” she said.
That gave Jansing all the opening she needed.
“Yeah, the fact that he’s from Kenya, and the fact that there were expectations on the African continent that he would do great things for them,” she said. “This is a concerted effort by this administration.”

Twitter immediately lit up:
@smaxxmahaffey @TheReidReport @chrisjansing yeah that was weird Jansing said that. His father and family is there but he’s not #reiders

But Reid never did bother correcting her. A full ten minutes went by before the reporter corrected herself, according to The Daily Caller.
“Yeah, and — and just obviously to clarify, I misspoke at the top — before,” she said. “It is obviously the president’s father who is from Kenya. And you clarified that.”
“But he has a real connection,” Jansing continued. “And there has been a great expectation that great things could happen with this president and the African continent.”
Not everyone was quite so sure, though.
