Video: ‘Mary Poppins’ whines for minimum wage

Goodness, this one is stupid.  Fortunately, it’s short.

Somebody thought it would be a good idea for Kristin Bell (Veronica Mars, Frozen) to suit up as Mary Poppins and nag us in song — to the tune of “Just a Spoonful of Sugar” — to bump up the federal minimum wage.

As you would expect, the lyrics are silly and unfunny.  Bell’s Mary Poppins does start out with a little homily on the bite taxes take out of a paycheck.  Which sounds  good, until you realize that (a) minimum-wage workers only pay federal income tax if they don’t file returns; and (b) legislatures control taxes just as they do the level of the minimum wage, and it’s dumb to raise the minimum wage when you could just lower tax rates.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“Mary” makes a weird, out-of-left-field reference to getting her birds from Mexico.  Read what you like into that.

The video comes to us from Funny or Die.  And it’s not funny.
