The headlines are again full of OMG! ISRAEL IS KILLING PALESTINIANS IN GAZA!!
This story from Reuters is typical:
“Israel kills militants entering from Gaza, death toll tops 500.” The lead paragraph:
Israeli forces killed 10 Palestinian militants who slipped across the border from Gaza through hidden tunnels on Monday, the military said, as the death toll from the two-week conflict passed 500 amid growing international calls for an end.
The UN Security Council issued a statement calling for a cease-fire last week. They issued another one today.
Prior to the closed-door session, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon criticized Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza, labeling it “an atrocious action.”
The world is full of protests against Israel that have turned into violent mobs calling for the deaths of Jews. The media, as always, spin these as “anti-Israel” protests, even as the mobs are openly calling to kill Jews. Not Zionists. Jews.
You know what hasn’t happened in the two weeks since Operation Protective Edge was begun? Any protests involving the following:
More than 700 killed in Syria as ISIS tightens grip on east
Facing fines, conversion or death, Christian families flee Mosul
89 Killed in Worst Afghanistan Bombing Since 2001
Nor have there been any statements issued by the Security Council, or special sessions convened by the UN Human Rights Council, about the other conflicts in the Middle East. Syria is so two years ago.
Ban Ki-Moon issued a statement about the persecution of Christians and minorities in Iraq, but he didn’t hop on a plane and try to get the various sides to talk or come to a cease-fire. And yet, he’s on his way to Israel to try to mediate a cease-fire. 170,000 dead in Syria? Oh, well. 500 dead in Gaza? CONVENE THE COUNCIL AND MAKE IT STOP!
I’m beginning to suspect a double standard here. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that the world doesn’t give a hoot about Arabs and Muslims unless Israel (or the U.S.) is involved.
Oh, don’t be silly. Everyone knows that the world has no double standard when it comes to Israeli actions. None at all.
I’ll keep my eye out for the violent anti-Syrian and anti-ISIS European protests. I’m especially hopeful those anti-Assad protests will be coming along any day now. I’ll report back when I’ve found them.
