Local gov’ts fight back, pass laws banning housing of illegal children

Local lawmakers are pushing back at the unfettered tide of immigrants crossing our borders illegally, and by extension, they’re thumbing their noses at the Obama administration. It began this week in the battleground state of Texas.

By a 6-2 vote, the League, Texas, City Council passed a resolution Tuesday banning the housing of illegal alien children, according to Houston station KHOU.

Just hours before League took its stand, the Galveston County Commission passed a similar measure 4-1, according to local ABC affiliate Eyewitness 13 News.

Since the flood of undocumented immigrants began, reports of disease, crime, and gang recruitment have surfaced. After processing at the southern border cities, they’ve been permitted to board commercial flights with inadequate identification. Once they reach their destination, many disappear before their preliminary deportation hearing date.

And these aren’t the only concerns — there’s also the matter of priorities.

“We have veterans that are homeless that can’t even get medical care,” said resident Kim Kitchen, according to KHOU. “But we’re gonna house these people on military bases. It just makes me sick.”

And there’s also the rule of law to consider.

“We have a constitution and by golly we need to stand up for our constitution” said Carol Alexander, according to KHOU. “I’m sick and tired of us rolling over and playing dead stand up.”
