As a part of a sex education class, eighth graders at Woodland Park Middle School in San Marcos, California were asked to stand under signs that said how far they would be willing to go sexually.
The signs said “smiled at, hugged, kissed, above the waist, below the waist, and all the way,” as reported at the local ABC Affiliate.
The inconceivable “lesson” must have been completely humiliating for the children. If it were not for vigilant parents contacting the local news, this story would have likely never seen the light of day.
The parents said that “their daughter and her classmates were in disbelief because they thought the teacher wanted to know how far they’ve gone sexually.” The school defended the “assignment,” which was taught by “a community clinic and has been used over the past several years” by saying “the activity was to discuss what is appropriate for dating at the middle school level.”
Is this what “clinics” should be teaching?
The parents were given the opportunity to opt out of this class, according to the school principal.
The slides that cannot be unseen at Pine Valley Middle School
In another local story, parents were outraged with a slide show that was shown to eighth graders. The local ABC affiliate reported:
“One slide talks about “Top Conception Myths” and mentions douching. The photo accompanying the slide shows young men with the caption ‘douche bag.’
Another photo shows a man on all fours, with a woman standing on him. The caption reads ‘girl on top can still get pregnant.’
The photo that enraged parents the most was a slide also focused on conception myths, but showed a picture of a man with blood on his face. The caption for that picture read: ‘A real man loves his woman every day of the month.‘” [emphasis added]
“That’s something you can’t unsee,” said the parent of the eighth grader said. “This is definitely more than R-rated. This is X-rated.”
Superintendent Kathy Granger defended the the curriculum as “factually and medically accurate.” Well, technically speaking, “douching does not wash the sperm away,” as one of the slides (pictured above) reveals.
