Boycott A&E movement explodes after network suspends Duck Dynasty’s star over anti-gay comments

Duck Dynasty Phil RobertsonDuck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson did the unthinkable — he publicly expressed his Christian views on homosexuality in a GQ article.  As a result, A&E promptly suspended him.  But the network’s action sparked anger among the show’s supporters, and a movement to boycott the network has exploded.

On Wednesday, Twitchy said a Boycott A&E Twitter account was established.  As of this writing, that account has over 7,900 followers.

“Freedom of speech is not just for liberals,” the account said in one of its few messages.

The account also posted a picture that reminds readers A&E forgot that Robertson said he would “never treat anyone with disrespect” simply because they are different from him.

The Christian Post’s Crossmap also said a Facebook page titled, “Boycott A&E Until Phil Robertson Is Put Back On Duck Dynasty” was established right after A&E’s announcement.

That page now has over 400,000 supporters.

“This page is to show support for the freedom of speech of Americans,” the page says.  “Unless Phil is reinstated to the show, we refuse to watch the A&E Channel!”

According to page administrators, over 200,000 people had “liked” the page in less than six hours.

“We are all fighting for the same thing, freedom of speech and our right to say what we want,” the page added.

The page also encourages everyone to change their profile picture to one depicting Robertson.

Across the country, conservatives blasted A&E for their decision.

“It looks like it’s time to boycott A&E,” said the Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin weighed in on both Twitter and Facebook.

“Free speech is an endangered species. Those ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us,” she wrote on Facebook.

Twitchy said a number of others ripped the network.

“Hi @aetv, are you aware the Robertson’s don’t need you? You need them. Good luck digging yourself out of this one,” tweeted Katie Pavlich.

It seems that A&E has proven that liberalism is not only an ideology of hate and rage, it is also an ideology of intolerance and tyrannical oppression, and it appears to have awakened a sleeping conservative giant.
