Obama, AWOL and clueless

Obama, AWOL and clueless

Obama golfAs commander-in-chief of the armed forces, a President of the United States could arguably be “away with official leave.” Since there is no one who outranks the C-in-C, it would seem that the president can stamp his own time card, as it were, and therefore never be AWOL.

Nevertheless, a number of media sources representing both sides of the ideological fence have accused President Barack Obama of being AWOL. Some headlines, recent and otherwise:

“John Cornyn: Obama is AWOL on budget talks”(Politico)

“Obama AWOL on Syria” (NY Times)

“Panetta: Obama AWOL on night of Benghazi attacks” (Breitbart)

“President Obama is AWOL on biggest issue of all” (Fox News)

(This last headline refers to slow-growth economy, lack of job creation, and increased national debt.)

In addition to the AWOL charges, the president is a master at playing the “ignorance card.” Whether his ignorance is real or a ruse is yet to be determined. Here is a list of the best known examples:

  • When the IRS/Tea Party scandal broke, Obama said he “learned about it from reading the newspaper.”
  • President Obama discovered the Justice Department’s “Fast and Furious” Mexican gun-running tactics, “through the media.”
  • When the Justice Department seized the Associated Press phone records the White House said it “had no idea.”
  • Currently, President Obama is just plain “denying” he knew that the NSA was spying on 35 foreign leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
  • And best of all, Obama was “blindsided” by the healthcare web site’s major malfunctions.

So our nation is experiencing a historic and tragic President who is either AWOL or ignorant depending on which approach best serves his management “style.”

How did these circumstances come about? The answer is simple.

The mainstream media have been largely AWOL since Obama burst on the national scene.

They have been complicit in allowing President Obama to engage in faux leadership through continuous crises and scandals because they have been acting as cheerleaders instead of reporters.

An obvious example is Benghazi. There is still no answer to the question, “Where was President Obama that evening?”

Another prime question still unresolved is, “Why has the IRS investigation disappeared after it landed on the steps of the White House?”

But watch closely, for the tide may be turning as the Obamacare wave pollutes the beach.

For now, Obama is confronted with a crisis equivalent to President Clinton’s learning that Monica Lewinsky had not sent her infamous stained blue dress to the dry cleaner. Remember, she was acting on the advice of Linda Tripp, who told Lewinsky that the dress stains were her “insurance policy.”

But instead of DNA stains on a blue dress, there is video of President Obama playing non-stop in which he says, “If you like your health plan you can keep it.” Meanwhile, millions of Americans are discovering this statement is “no longer operational,” which is inside-the-Beltwayspeak for “bald face lies.”

It is fun to watch as some of Obama’s AWOL media enablers are left with no choice but to do their traditional jobs and attempt to report objectively about the disaster at hand.

Of course, this is only because their professional reputations and credibility are at stake. Check out the Daily Show, Washington Post and even NBC these days to name a few AWOL media outlets back at work for this crisis at least.

Predictably, our nation is reaping the tragic results of five years and two presidential elections worth of AWOL media covering an AWOL president who was forced upon the American people by them.

It is ironic that Obamacare, the president’s signature legacy program, is the crisis that has caused the mainstream media to report to their duty desks.

Maybe now, and only because of professional self-preservation, will some real answers begin to emerge about the IRS, NSA and Benghazi scandals. If so, “President Obama AWOL” could be how he is permanently recorded in the annals of American history.
