Obamacare website quietly drops reference to ‘free’ health care

Obana sweatingA nifty catch by Jeryl Bier of The Weekly Standard. He notes:

Even as President Obama and his administration are making a last minute push to encourage enrollment in Obamacare, a quiet change was made on the Healthcare.gov website regarding those who will still not be able to afford coverage after the program kicks in.

Bier points out that up until Sept. 15, a page for one of the Q & As under the heading ”Getting Lower Costs on Coverage” contained the question “Where can I get free or low-cost care in my community?” An archive of the page as it appeared still existed as of this writing. Here is a screen grab:

Archive of pageBut the content has been revised. Here is how it looks now:

Page todayThe most salient change is the deletion of the word free from the phrase free and low-cost from the bold-faced question.

Other changes include the elimination of the bullet point for prescription drugs and the watering down of the bullet indicating “specialized care” options. The eagle-eyed Bier also points out that a reference to “dental care” has been stripped out of the sentence of running text beginning “If you can’t afford any health plan….”

None of this is terribly shocking, not when you consider that the man whose administration continues selling this unpopular legislation once promised that “if you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan.” But try telling that to the residents of California, Connecticut, New York, Wisconsin, and at least six other states where major insurance carriers, such as Aetna and United Health Care, have announced that they will not participate in the Obamacare exchanges.

Equally unsurprising are these insidious unannounced changes to the HealthCare.gov website. Such deplorable behavior has sadly become the norm for the most transparent administration in the history of the world.
