Will undercover video of Bronx abortion clinic horrors stir the media pot?

Counselor at Dr EmilysThe murder trial of Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell continues to receive no more than lukewarm attention from the mainstream press — a reality acknowledged even by the New York Times’s ombudsman Margaret Sullivan on Apr. 15. In fact, Sullivan’s column was the last word the newspaper of record had on the case despite the fact that closing arguments begin today.

Yet, a series of undercover videos that derive from the premise that “Gosnell is not alone” — that the kinds of abuses he inflicted on babies born alive “are business as usual for the abortion industry in America” — is sure to move the conversation, and media coverage, front and center.

In fact it has already begun to. The little-seen video below is a counter-protest by the New York Coalition for Abortion Clinic Defense (NYCACD). It is in reaction to the first of the hidden-camera exposés by pro-life group LiveAction, shot at Dr. Emily Women’s Health Center in the South Bronx.

The documentary, which follows, consists predominantly of an exchange between an investigative reporter (who is purportedly seeking an abortion at 23 weeks) and an intake counselor at the clinic. The upward fetal age limit on legal abortion in New York State is the 24th week.

Be warned. The exchange is not easy to watch. In it, the counselor matter-of-factly allows as how all “specimens” extracted through abortion are placed “in a jar — a container, with solution,” which has “to go to the lab” to be disposed of.

If the baby is “twitching,” the counselor explains to the inquisitive aborter-to-be, “the solution will make it stop… That is the whole purpose of the solution.” Ditto for babies who emerge breathing. “It will automatically stop,” the counselor advises. “It won’t be able to breathe anymore. Not in the — not with the solution,” which the counselor affirms to be “toxic.”

Perhaps the most revealing portion of the video comes at 2:18, when the counselor confesses to being curious at all the questions. “I mean,” she says, “I don’t know why you want to know all this!”

It would seem that any woman contemplating an abortion would “want to know all this.” Or maybe not.
