Mother Accused Of Killing Son Said Lindsay Clancy Case ‘Inspired’ Her

Lindsay Clancy’s high-profile murder trial gripped countless women across the country. So much so, Illinois prosecutors who charged a woman with first-degree murder for allegedly killing her son claim she was inspired by the Clancy case.

Corie Walsh is accused of killing her 2-year-old son after police responded to a report of an unresponsive child. The police found a neighbor performing CPR on the child after discovering the two-year-old hanging in the basement.

Clancy’s three children—ages five, three, and eight months, were also found dead in the basement of their home.

The child was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, with the preliminary autopsy listing his cause of death as asphyxia caused by ligature compression of the neck. (RELATED: Judge Declares Mistrial In Lindsay Clancy Case After Lone Juror Refuses To Budge)

Clancy’s children also died of asphyxia, in this case after Lindsay used exercise bands to strangle each child.

Officers found Walsh in a bloody bathtub upstairs with cuts to her wrists and thighs. She was later hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries. Her husband was out of town with their three other children who were unharmed.

Clancy also attempted suicide after killing her children, using a knife to cut her wrists and neck before jumping out of a second story window. Clancy also waited to kill her children when her husband was out of the house.

Walsh reportedly told officers that she killed her son because he was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ.”

Clancy’s defense claimed she was experiencing postpartum psychosis during the 18 minute window in which she killed her children and attempted suicide. Prosecutors in Walsh’s case claimed she had become “very interested” in the Clancy trial and that she had been discussing it in a group text just hours before police arrived at the home. According to reports, Walsh said she was “inspired” by the Clancy case.

A judge declared a mistrial in the Clancy case Friday after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict. After seven days of deliberations, a lone juror remained unconvinced, prompting the judge to declare the mistrial.
