They’ve got nothing. The progressive left keeps showing its true colors

It’s no accident that in a week when a “thousand-year” flooding event has huge swaths of Louisiana underwater, with 11 people confirmed dead, many still missing, and tens of thousands homeless, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are nowhere to be seen.

Well, not in Louisiana, anyway.  They’re not in Milwaukee, either, where riots erupted over the weekend and the governor of Wisconsin had to call up the National Guard on Monday.

Nor are they in southern California, where more than 80,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders as a wildfire rages out of control, shutting down a major interstate artery for two days and counting.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Obama is certainly not on the air reassuring Americans, or our allies, about the imperiled U.S. nuclear weapons in Turkey.  Not even as think-tank analysts issue a non-partisan warning that the weapons could fall into terrorists’ hands – and reports emerge about Turkey potentially allowing Russia to start using Incirlik airbase – and rumors fly that the nukes have been moved to Romania (! – the most confrontational place they could possibly go, from Russia’s perspective*) – and Russia moves 40,000 troops to the border of Ukraine for another…exercise.

No, Obama is alternately fundraising for Democrats among wealthy donors, and enjoying his summer vacation on Martha’s Vineyard.  Hillary reportedly plans to spend the next five weeks doing basically the same thing.

And what’s the big meme-tastic imagery pumped out from the leftosphere this week?

An unflattering naked statue of Donald Trump.  Unseemly, irrelevant, idiotically juvenile; exposing exactly one thing: the gutter mind of the chortling leftist.

The statue doesn’t hurt Trump at all.  It shows up the people who perpetrated it, and the media that have given it prominent coverage, for what they have become.

That’s it.  That’s all they’ve got.  A naked Trump statue and a bunch of crony-rich donors, hiding behind walls and causeways.

It falls to Trump himself – Trump the verbally incontinent, Trump the pugnacious, Trump the gaudy, Trump the unpresentable and crude – to actually go to Milwaukee, and act like someone who cares.  To go to Louisiana.  To talk about fighting terrorism, and protecting America from the dangers of virtually uncontrolled migration.

Do the legions of Trump’s detractors — obsessively angry, even vile — expect the people to respond positively to their over-the-top attacks on him?  If they do, they really miss their tip.

I have yet to see anyone establish the high ground with an attack on Trump.  It’s more a matter of watching a whole lot of people wallow in ad hominem hysteria because they obviously just can’t help themselves.  Believe me when I tell you this, Trump attackers:  it bounces off him and sticks on you.  At a certain point, it’s time to stop doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

That dynamic might be different if anyone but Trump looked like he or she (a) cared, and (b) had energy or even a modicum of courage.  But no one does.  Heck, everyone knows why Hillary isn’t going to Louisiana or Milwaukee: because she’s just not up to it, physically, mentally, or spiritually.

But incorporated in that set of reasons is the overarching one.  She doesn’t care.  Neither does Obama.  The progressive left sees humans through the lenses of ideology, statistics, and exploitation.  That’s it.  The left doesn’t care about people, as people.

That’s why the progressive-left leadership of the West is on autopilot, stunned, dazed, inert, sick and wobbly, turning its anger on the people, and shuffling blindly around the empty throne of secular governmentism as the world seems to spin off its axis.

Until enough people get this, and relate it to the foolish political beliefs wandering around in their own heads, it will be necessary to keep pointing it out.  Progressive leftism is a really, really big lie ruling our public square, and there’s no truth at the bottom of it.  None.

It’s a big con, playing on your shallow sentiments and superficial reflexes.  You have to let it go.  If necessary, acknowledge that you’ve been wrong to buy into it for years.  Don’t bother acknowledging it to me or any other limited-government constitutionalist.  That’s not the point.  But acknowledge it to yourself, so you can get healthy and move on.

The deadline for moving on is coming very soon.  There are a lot of things that no president can protect you from, of course.  But there are things a president should care about, and things a president should not actively set you up for.  The policies of the progressive left are grand transgressions on both counts.

Hillary represents no refuge of normality or conventionality – she portends only more of Obama’s pattern: not caring about you, and setting you up.

Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

(Psalm 146:3-4, KJV)

* I don’t believe this rumor is valid.  The nukes are technically a NATO asset, and even if Obama simply doesn’t care, others in NATO do.  There’s no way the nukes would be moved to Romania.  Romania wouldn’t take them anyway.  Talk about drawing a big, fat bull’s eye on yourself and prancing like the village fool in front of Moscow.
