Rabies declines
Bhutan has eliminated dog-transmitted human rabies as a public health problem, notes the World Health Organization:
“The World Health Organization (WHO) has validated Bhutan’s elimination of dog-transmitted rabies as a public health problem in the country. Bhutan is the first country in the WHO South-East Asia Region to achieve this success. Rabies is a viral disease that is almost always fatal once clinical symptoms appear. However, rabies deaths are preventable. On one hand, vaccinating dogs curbs the disease at its source; on the other, prompt use of post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) stops the virus from reaching the central nervous system after a bite. PEP consists of thorough wound washing, administration of a course of human rabies vaccine and, when indicated, rabies immunoglobulins (RIG) injection….Rabies is one of 21 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), which affect one billion people globally. As of September 2026, 65 countries had eliminated at least one NTD. Public education targeting both children and adults on dog behaviors, bite prevention, appropriate actions following a bite or scratch from a potentially rabid animal, and responsible pet ownership are essential components of effective rabies programs.”
Globally, rabies cases have fallen by more than half since 1990, including a fall of over 95% in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Rabies cases have fallen by 12,000 in neighboring India, to less than 6,000 cases per year: “Dogs are biting less in India. A 2025 survey reported 9.1 million dog bites, down from 17 million recorded in 2003. Over the same period, the number of rabies deaths in India dropped from over 17,000 to 5,726,” reports The Doomslayer.
Malaria cases have fallen 80 percent in India since 2015.
Cheetahs recently returned to India after being absent since 1952, when they went extinct there. India has also doubled its tiger population.
Chatbots are being developed for India’s many languages (700 languages are spoken in India).
India’s capital city is so polluted that it tried to use artificial rain to fight air pollution. Pollution is very bad in parts of northern India. If you travel through those regions, you get dust all over your car’s windshield, dust between your teeth, and dust covering your clothes. India’s capital, Delhi, is a dusty megacity. Its 34 million people die years sooner than they otherwise would, due to air pollution.
