University of Minnesota denounces ‘whiteness pandemic’

The “Culture and Family Lab” at the University of Minnesota warns against a “whiteness pandemic,” reports Fox News.  It does so on a university webpage that contains “resources” on how to “halt and reverse” the plague of whiteness.

“If you were born or raised in the United States, you have grown up in the Whiteness Pandemic, and you can play a role in halting and reversing this pandemic, especially if you are White because of the power and privilege you hold in this racialized society,” explains the webpage, authored by the University of Minnesota’s Institute of Child Development.

“If you were socialized into the culture of Whiteness during childhood…as an adult it is now your responsibility to self-reflect, re-educate yourself, and act. If you are a White adult, antiracist action involves an ongoing process of self-reflection…while engaging in courageous antiracist parenting/caregiving.”

The nonprofit Defending Education issued a report outlining the University of Minnesota’s campaign against whiteness, on November 25.

As Fox News adds, the University of Minnesota’s

website goes on to explain that racism should be viewed as an “epidemic” or “pandemic” but that “another” pandemic is “lurking” behind and driving that issue. The “whiteness pandemic.”

Several experts are listed on the website, some of whom provide resources on the subject, including some subject matter meant “especially for white parents” mentioning the death of George Floyd, along with tips on how to develop a “healthy white racial identity.”

“Whiteness refers to culture, not biology: the centuries-old culture of Whiteness features colorblindness, passivity, and White fragility, which are all covert expressions of racism common in the United States,” the university says.

“Naming the Whiteness Pandemic shifts our gaze from the victims and effects of racism onto the systems that perpetrate and perpetuate racism, starting with the family system. At birth, young children growing up in White families begin to be socialized into the culture of Whiteness, making the family system one of the most powerful systems involved in systemic racism.”

The man tapped by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to write Minnesota’s ethnic studies curriculum called for the “overthrow” of the United States, because he says it is “irreversibly racist”, reported the National Review.

It is common among progressive academics to disparage “whiteness.” The “key concept” in Ibram Kendi’s book “How To Be An Antiracist” is that discrimination against whites is the only way to achieve equality: “The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination,” wrote Kendi in that book. That book is a “comprehensive introduction to critical race theory,” gushed the progressive media organ Slate.

The Critical Race Theory promoted by the University of Minnesota is hostile to free markets and hostile to free speech. “To love capitalism is to end up loving racism. To love racism is to end up loving capitalism…Capitalism is essentially racist; racism is essentially capitalist,” says Ibram Kendi’s book How to Be An Antiracist.

A non-partisan national think-tank gave Minnesota Governor Tim Walz an “F” for fiscal management, the lowest score of any state governor. The head of a Minnesota-based think-tank says that Walz

is a small-minded, mean-spirited man…Walz’s character defects are considerable, but let’s leave it at this: he was largely responsible for the George Floyd riots that devastated Minneapolis and other cities, because he dithered for days rather than calling out the National Guard. By his own admission, he held off out of sympathy for the rioters’ cause. We are still living with the consequences.

Walz has a terrible record as governor….Under Walz, Minnesota became a high-crime state for the first time ever…Under Walz, student achievement tumbled even as spending on schools skyrocketed…Under Walz, per capita GDP in Minnesota fell below the national average, for the first time ever…Under Walz, increases in energy costs have far outstripped the national average…And under Walz, Minnesota has joined New York, California and Illinois as a state that people of all ages are fleeing.
