(Just the News) — Social media on Thursday erupted after a video went viral that showed a Democratic mayoral candidate in Minneapolis speaking Somali during a rally, and waving what appeared to a variation of a Somali flag.
Democratic socialist candidate Omar Fateh, an American who was born to Somali immigrant parents, addressed a rally of supporters earlier this year when he began speaking the foreign language and waved the flag in an attempt to get votes from the city’s Somali population.
Conservative activists and commentators blasted Fateh, who has been referred to as the Zohran Mamdani of Minneapolis, for appearing to support another country while running to be mayor of a major American city.
