Medical nonprofit sues woke medical school over its racially-restrictive directory of physicians

A medical nonprofit devoted to merit-based medicine has filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against the University of Washington School of Medicine.

On October 15, Do No Harm filed a lawsuit against the school over its BIPOC [black, indigenous, and people of color] Physicians Directory, which is “restricting access to a physician networking directory based on race.”

Do No Harm is bringing the lawsuit “against the University of Washington School of Medicine, UW Medicine, and various University of Washington School of Medicine and UW Medicine officials for violating the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act,” the group explains in its court complaint filed in Seattle.

”White physicians are ineligible to participate in the BIPOC Physicians Directory, even if they would prove to be a great resource for medical students, BIPOC or not. Thus, Defendants deprive white physicians of the ‘benefits’ of ‘support[ing] an important cause,’ ‘expanding [their] network,’ ‘supporting [their] future colleagues,’ and ‘invest[ing] in [their] communities.’”

”Defendants should assist students in their efforts to network with experienced physicians and learn more about the profession that Defendants are preparing them to join,” the complaint adds. “But rather than offer networking resources to all students equally, Defendants have chosen racial stratification, creating and maintaining a special physician-networking directory available only to BIPOC students.”

Do No Harm Chairman Stanley Goldfarb calls the directory’s racial restrictions “unethical and illegal.” “Putting racial roadblocks on medical students making the critical career choice of a residency program and blocking white doctors from mentoring medical students is unethical and illegal.” The School of Medicine “should be ensuring that its students are well-trained and best able to serve patients,” he says.

The school’s Office of Healthcare Equity website, which includes the BIPOC Physicians Directory, is filled with wokeness, such as a staff directory showing each staffer’s preferred pronouns, and “Blackface Resources.

Do No Harm, which is suing the school, advocates “making healthcare better for all – not undermining it in pursuit of a political agenda.” It opposes “divisive trends” such as racial identitarianism, DEI, and “gender ideology” aimed at indoctrinating youth.
