On Sunday, Hollywood leftists gathered to give each other awards for pretending to be something they’re not. Actor Robert De Niro was one of the presenters at the 72nd annual Tony Award ceremony held in New York City and he used the opportunity to drop a couple of f-bombs on President Trump.
“I just want to say one thing. F*ck Trump. It’s no longer down with Trump. It’s f*ck Trump,” he said, prompting the audience to respond with a standing ovation.

This is not the first time the actor-director went off script to demonstrate his unbridled loathing of the president at an awards ceremony. Last month, while introducing Meryl Streep at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala in New York, De Niro used the opportunity to call the president “jerk-off-in-chief” and a “f*cking idiot.” But it’s the first time his fellow thespians greeted his childish, foul-mouthed attack on Trump with a half-minute of thunderous applause.
Some on Twitter saw the potential danger in such venting:

It seems that way.
Others pitied the aging actor and chastised his peers for encouraging such ugly obsenity:

Writing at Newsbusters, Karen Townsend noted that the injection of politics into what was supposed be a celebration of excellence in the legitimate theatre came before De Niro took the stage:
The very first award, presented was to the Best Leading Actor and it started the ball rolling. Actor Andrew Garfield won for Angels of America and gave a shout-out to the LGBT community. Then he took a little swipe at the recent Supreme Court decision to allow a small business owner in Colorado the freedom of practicing his religion. The baker turned down the request of a gay couple to bake their wedding cake. So, Garfield said, “Let’s just bake a cake for everyone who wants a cake to be baked.” Not real deep thinking, but the message was delivered.
There was a performance by the drama department of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The school in Parkland, Florida, you will remember, was the scene of a mass shooting by a disturbed student. The Director of the Drama Department, Melody Herzfeld, received an award for Excellence in Theatre Education for sheltering 65 students in a small office for 2 hours that day. Fortunately, we were all spared any diatribes about gun violence or anti-NRA screeds.
I enjoy theatre. I especially enjoy musical theatre. For that reason, the show is tolerable for me because of the performances throughout the evening. The smug, self-congratulatory tone wasn’t so entertaining, though. Only in their little Broadway bubble are these folks better than anyone buying a ticket to see one of their plays. Maybe one day that message will be delivered. How does cursing the president, duly elected by half of the country, bring about the unity and love that all these Broadway people preach?
In February 2011 I first opined that liberalism, at its core, is an ideology of rage and hate. Sadly, leftists like De Niro prove that assertion correct on just about any given day.
Remember this in November — they don’t just hate Trump — they hate you for supporting him and they hate America for electing him into the White House.
