Actor George Clooney, who has been living in England with his family, has announced that they will be moving back to Los Angeles. It’s not because life in a seventeenth-century mansion was not up to the film star’s high standards of living. It was rather because of — how to put this delicately? — “health” reasons. As in England has witnessed a spate of terror attacks lately, and Clooney believes that if you want to continue breathing (and he does), you just doesn’t stay there.
It’s not the first time Clooney has had security concerns. According to Life and Style magazine,
George’s safety concerns had been growing for years. The Oscar winner “has been subject to very serious threats in the past,” reveals the source, because of his humanitarian efforts in Darfur, Sudan. And [his wife] Amal’s work as an international human rights lawyer, along with her public pleas for foreign governments to prosecute terrorists, has made her a potential target.
I have no problem with a man wanting to protect his family, but there is undeniably a soupçon — ah, enough of this delicacy! — boatload of hypocrisy in Clooney’s actions taken in the context of his public stance on the issue of immigration.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
He called Donald Trump’s temporary ban on migrants from selected nations “massively stupid” and has called the president “a xenophobic fascist.”
Speaking at the Berlin International Film Festival last year, Clooney said that the U.S. wasn’t doing enough to aid in the Syrian refugee crisis, adding that “10,000 refugees a year was not enough, that’s clear.”
