The illegal immigrant who killed Sheridan Gorman was released into the country by the Biden administration after being arrested by U.S. Border Patrol.
Gorman, an 18-year-old student at Loyola University, was allegedly shot and killed by Jose Medina-Medina late Thursday night near the campus. Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant, approached Gorman’s group “while wearing a mask” and gunned down the student as she attempted to flee according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DHS stated in a Sunday press release that Medina-Medina was caught by U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023 and released under the Biden administration, and was arrested a second time, this time for shoplifting, before being released on June 19, 2023. The agency referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to its press release when reached for comment. Acting Assistant Secretary of DHS Lauren Bis said the Biden administration’s border policies “failed” Gorman.
“Sheridan Gorman had her whole life ahead of her before this cold-blooded killer decided to end her life,” Bis said in a statement. “She was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who RELEASED this illegal alien TWICE before he went on to commit this heinous murder.”
DHS also announced on Sunday that ICE lodged an arrest detainer asking Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and fellow “sanctuary politicians” not to release Medina-Medina. Pritzker has not commented on Gorman’s murder or the ICE detainer at the time of publication, despite criticizing President Donald Trump and his opponent in the 2026 gubernatorial race on X.
“A progressive Chicago Democrat is taking a ton of heat for suggesting that a Loyola University Chicago student who was allegedly executed by an illegal migrant caused her own murder — and that she was ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time'”, reported the New York Post:
Chicago Alderwoman Maria Hadden was speaking after Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old from Yorktown, New York, was shot dead Thursday morning while she walked with friends along the city’s lakefront near campus.
Hadden said the deadly shooting appeared to be a case of Gorman being “in the wrong place at the wrong time, running into a person who had a gun,” in an interview with Fox 32 Chicago.
“They might have unintentionally startled this person at the end of the pier,” she added. “We don’t believe there is cause for broader community concern.”
An illegal Venezuelan migrant, 25-year-old Jose Medina-Medina, was arrested and charged with the killing.
Hadden’s comments come despite police reports that Gorman’s killer stalked her from behind for some time before shooting her at point-blank range and fleeing.
Hadden was accused of having “pretty much blamed Sheridan Gorman for her own murder” by one X user.
