Suicide bomber kills 31 at mosque in Pakistan’s capital

“A suicide bomber killed 31 people at a mosque on the outskirts of Islamabad and injured at least 150 others,” reports The New York Times. This fuels “worries that the militant groups active in Pakistan’s border areas are increasingly targeting the capital.”

This “bombing was the second major attack in the Pakistani capital in recent months, after a bomber killed at least 12 people and wounded dozens near a courthouse in November. The attack occurred during Friday prayers at a Shiite mosque in Tarlai Kalan, on the southeastern edge of Islamabad. Police officials said the attacker was stopped and challenged by guards at the entrance and then ran farther into the compound before detonating explosives near the last line of worshipers. Shiite Muslims, a minority in Pakistan, have, for decades, been frequent targets of extremist groups, particularly in areas that border Afghanistan, but large-scale sectarian attacks in the capital have been comparatively rare….the Islamic State, or ISIS, claimed responsibility for the bombing….the ISIS-linked Amaq News Agency said the bomber fired on guards before detonating an explosive vest.”

In September, a militia fired a missile into a mosque in the major city of El Fasher in Sudan, killing dozens of people. That militia, the RSF, later killed tens of thousands of people in the city of El Fasher. So many civilians were slaughtered that pools of blood were visible from outer space.

The RSF committed genocide against the Masalit people of western Sudan. The RSF have also slaughtered tens of thousands of the Zaghawa people after seizing the major city of El Fasher. It also has kidnapped thousands of people and held them for random, torturing many of them.

Earlier, the RSF militia deliberately shelled a hospital and maternity ward, killing mothers and doctors.
