The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has raided the home of former National Security Advisor John Bolton as part of a national security investigation, the New York Post reported Friday.

Federal agents arrived at Bolton’s residence in Bethesda, Maryland, at 7 a.m. Friday morning, the order coming  directly from FBI Director Kash Patel, according to the Post. Bolton, who served as a national security advisor during President Donald Trump’s first term, was previously under investigation for misuse of classified documents; that probe was dropped under former President Joe Biden.

“This is related to a national security investigation of Mr. Bolton that was shut down by the Biden administration for political reasons,” a source familiar with the raid told Daily Caller editorial director Vince Coglianese. “It involves stealing classified documents and weaponizing them for political purposes. Kash Patel and Dan Bongino have reopened the investigation. Hence this morning’s raid.” (RELATED: Trump’s FBI Reportedly Ups The Ante On Purging Deep Staters From Its Ranks)

Bolton has been a vocal critic of Trump ever since he resigned from the National Security advisor role in 2019. Bolton has been accused of including classified information in his 2020 book, “The Room Where It Happened,” which sparked criticism from Trump.

Bolton posted on X around the same time as the raid, criticizing the president’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine war. It is unclear whether or not the post was scheduled.

Patel posted a cryptic message to his X page just ahead of the raid Friday morning.

“NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission,” Patel said in his post.

The FBI declined a Daily Caller News Foundation request for comment.
