The House impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden found he committed several “impeachable offenses,” according to a report released Monday by the House Oversight, Judiciary and Ways and Means Committees.
While serving as vice president, Biden allegedly leveraged his office to enrich his family to the tune of tens of millions of dollars from foreign entities funneled through shell corporations, as well as mishandling sensitive classified documents from the White House that were later found at his personal residence, according to the report. The president’s son, Hunter Biden, also reportedly used his father’s office to obtain favorable outcomes in business dealings with foreign companies, which they attempted to conceal by laundering funds through intermediate companies to avoid suspicion. “Our impeachment inquiry shows conclusively that Joe Biden abused his public office for the private financial benefit of the Biden family and Biden business associates,” House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan said in a statement. “The facts speak for themselves, and Democrats can no longer stretch the truth to cover for President Biden.”
Since 2014, Biden family members and their business associates have received over $27 million from foreign companies or individuals from China, Ukraine, Russia, Romania and Kazakhstan, according to the report. The proceeds from these business activities, including hundreds of thousands of dollars “directly traceable to China,” were allegedly transferred to Biden, concealed through intermediate companies.
Biden also allegedly assisted Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings by leveraging his office as vice president, which resulted in millions of dollars from foreign entities that were directed to the family, according to the report. The then-vice president allegedly met with or spoke to nearly all of the Biden family’s foreign business associates, including adversarial countries like China and Russia. The Biden family also leveraged the then-vice president’s position of power to obtain over $8 million in loans from Democratic donors which have not been repaid and lack sufficient paperwork, according to the report. House Republicans raised concerns in the report about whether these funds were gifts concealed as loans.
“The totality of the corrupt conduct uncovered by the Committees is egregious,” the report reads. “President Joe Biden conspired to commit influence peddling and grift. In doing so, he abused his office and, by repeatedly lying about his abuse of office, has defrauded the United States to enrich his family. Not one of these transactions would have occurred, but for Joe Biden’s official position in the United States government.”
Under Biden’s presidential tenure, the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) afforded “special treatment” to Hunter Biden regarding his criminal investigations, the report claims. The FBI and DOJ allegedly “slow-walked” the investigation, interfered with routine investigative procedures and allowed the statute of limitations to expire on the most serious felony charges to benefit Hunter Biden, according to the report.
“President Biden’s participation in this conspiracy to enrich his family constitutes impeachable conduct,” the report reads. “By monetizing the Vice Presidency for his family’s benefit, he abused his office of public trust, placing the welfare of his family ahead of the welfare of the United States. He also put foreign interests ahead of the interests of the American people.”
The DOJ also allegedly misled Congress about the “independence of law enforcement entities” involved in Hunter Biden’s criminal investigation, according to the report. U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware David Weiss, who the report alleged had a “clear conflict of interest” when overseeing the investigation, was only afforded special counsel status after the case was confronted with congressional scrutiny. The White House also reportedly obstructed the Committee’s impeachment inquiry into the President by barring the National Archives from turning over crucial documents and “refusing to make relevant witnesses available,” according to the report.
“The Constitution’s remedy for a President’s flagrant abuse of office is clear: impeachment by the House of Representatives and removal by the Senate,” the report reads. “Despite the cheapening of the impeachment power by Democrats in recent years, the House’s decision to pursue articles of impeachment must not be made lightly.”
