“During his 2006 congressional run, Tim Walz’s campaign falsely claimed he wasn’t drinking during his 1995 arrest and the DUI charge was dismissed. They even said he drove to the station. Court records show the truth. He was drunk, driving 96 mph,” notes CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski.
CNN describes the deceit of Tim Walz’s campaign:
When Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz first ran for Congress in 2006, his campaign repeatedly made false statements about the details of his 1995 arrest for drunk and reckless driving. According to court and police records connected to the incident, Walz admitted in court that he had been drinking when he was pulled over for driving 96 mph in a 55 mph zone in Nebraska. Walz was then transported by a state trooper to a local hospital for a blood test, showing he had a blood alcohol level of .128, well above the state’s legal limit of 0.1 at the time.
But in 2006, his campaign repeatedly told the press that he had not been drinking that night, claiming that his failed field sobriety test was due to a misunderstanding related to hearing loss from his time in the National Guard. The campaign also claimed that Walz was allowed to drive himself to jail that night.
None of that was true. A CNN KFile review of statements made by the Walz campaign at the time reveals numerous discrepancies between how the campaign described the events and the facts of what actually took place that night.
“The DUI charge was dropped for a Reason: it wasn’t true,” Walz’s then-campaign communications director told local news in 2006. “The trooper had him drive to the station and then leave on his own after being at the station. Tim feels bad about speeding and has paid the ticket and apologized to his family at the time it happened.”
In fact, the incident’s police report clearly states that Walz was transported by police to a local hospital for blood alcohol testing after being arrested. And this week, Nebraska state police confirmed to CNN that Walz was taken by a state trooper to jail.
Walz has falsely claimed to have carried a gun “in war” when he never served on the battlefield, never engaged in combat, and never went to Iraq or Afghanistan, contrary to what he falsely indicated while in Congress. He has also misstated his rank: His campaign was recently forced to retract the false claim that he is a “retired Command Sergeant Major.”
As ABC News notes, when the host of a TV program falsely stated that Walz “served with his battalion in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan,” “Walz nodded in agreement at that statement — despite the fact that, according to military records and his own admission, he had never served in Afghanistan.”
As Newsmax notes,
Democrat Gov. Tim Walz’s stolen valor plot has thickened as C-SPAN clips show how far he allowed misinformation about his military record to go when he was a member of Congress.
In one clip he tells the story of returning from deployment and getting shown the “Horse Whisperer” as treatment for potential post-traumatic stress disorder [from combat], while in another he is shown clearly nodding in agreement when a host repeats his military record with a claim “served with his battalion in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.”
When Walz was governor of Minnesota, his administration turned a blind eye to a blatantly obvious $250 million fraud scheme that fleeced taxpayers.
im Walz also helped create an atmosphere of lawlessness in Minneapolis by refusing to deploy the National Guard for days in response to deadly riots, even after the Democratic mayor of Minneapolis begged him to send in the National Guard to end the rioting. Mayor Jacob Frey described how “Gov. Tim Walz failed to take his requests for help seriously until it was too late….Frey said that Walz hesitated to send in the National Guard to quell the growing violence and then blamed him for allowing the city to burn.” The riots caused more than $500 million in damage in Minneapolis and St. Paul and “burned over 1,000 businesses and a police station to the ground.”
Walz has “a terrible record as governor. Under Walz, Minnesota became a high-crime state for the first time ever. Under Walz, student achievement tumbled even as spending on schools skyrocketed. Under Walz, per capita GDP in Minnesota fell below the national average, for the first time ever. Under Walz, increases in energy costs have far outstripped the national average,” notes the head of a Minnesota think-tank.
Walz raised taxes in Minnesota even as taxes fell in neighboring states. Walz sought tax increases even when the state was anticipated to have a $17.5 billion budget surplus, spending all of the $17.5 surplus and trying to raise taxes yet again. Walz dramatically increased government spending in Minnesota, and ran up one of the worst fiscal records in America. “I gave Tim Walz an ‘F’ on the 2022 Cato Governors Report Card. Big taxer and spender,” says economist Chris Edwards.
As Erick Erickson observes, “Tim Walz refused to add state police resources to quell progressive rioters. He closed churches during COVID and reopened bars but refused to reopen churches. He taxes retiree social security income. He attempted an income tax hike during COVID. He kept kids locked out of public schools. Under Walz, the murder rate in Minnesota jumped over 50%.”
Carjackings in Minnesota jumped by 548% in Minneapolis under Tim Walz, reports Newsweek. Carjackings jumped by 289% in just one year while he was governor, from 2019 to 2020. The increase was due in large part to left-wing policies backed by Tim Walz.
Minnesota’s high taxes and growing number of restrictions on residents under Walz have driven thousands of residents to other states, like Florida, that have lower taxes and less red tape. Minnesota has lost more residents to Florida than any other state.
