Senator Ted Cruz has criticized Joe “Biden’s Sixth Circuit judicial nominee Karla Campbell for working for an openly Marxist organization and misleading the Senate Judiciary Committee about it,” notes Carrie Severino. Senator Cruz noted, “This is the same group in 2020 that called for abolishing ICE, abolishing prisons and detentions centers, and abolishing the police.” He asked Campell, “Why did you volunteer for a communist organization that calls for abolishing ICE and abolishing the police?” Karla Campbell responded, “Senator I have never seen these comments before.” Cruz replied, “You didn’t know who you were volunteering for!?”
As Severino observes, “This is the type of radical that President Biden is nominating for a lifetime position on the federal bench.” If confirmed, Campell will sit on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, which hears appeals from federal courts in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Michigan.
Campell is not the only Biden nominee who has Marxist links. So does Julia Lipez, nominated to sit on the First Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears cases from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Puerto Rico.
“Why have you spent a decade as a legal adviser to an openly Communist and Marxist organization?” Cruz asked Lipez…..She later said that she had volunteered on the group’s legal advisory board for roughly three years to help them “get set up and get started.” The group was founded in 2010, according to its website…..
“You have a long pattern of sentencing criminal defendants to egregiously light sentences,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said to Lipez during the Thursday hearing.
Republicans scrutinized her decision to suspend half of a 12-year sentence for a 45-year-old man who was charged with sexually abusing a 4-year-old and a 9-year-old child….
Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Cruz accused Karla Campbell, a labor lawyer, of providing misleading answers regarding her involvement with a Nashville workers’ rights non-profit, Workers’ Dignity, which Republicans say holds radical views about immigration, the police, and labor [including abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the police].
Senator John Kennedy says,
A monster molested 4– and 9-year–old girls. Lipez called him “a person who has a lot of good in him” and suspended half of his jail sentence, giving him only 6 years behind bars. Pres. Biden wants to put Lipez on the court of appeals for life.
On June 18, Republican Senators temporarily blocked the confirmation of another Biden nominee to a federal judgeship in Oregon. That nominee, Mustafa Khasubai, had advocated applying Marxist principles in property law, and is a fan of the race radical Ibram Kendi. The “key concept” in Ibram Kendi’s best-selling book How to Be an Antiracist was that discrimination against whites is the only way to achieve equality: “The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination,” wrote Kendi in that book. Kendi has been described by progressive publications as a leading “critical race theorist.” “To love capitalism is to end up loving racism. To love racism is to end up loving capitalism…Capitalism is essentially racist; racism is essentially capitalist,” says Kendi’s book How to Be An Antiracist. That book is a “comprehensive introduction to critical race theory,” gushes the leading progressive media organ Slate.
That Biden nominee, Mustafa Khasubai, has written many bizarre things in the past, such as an article denigrating heterosexuality as oppressive. As The National Review reports, “The nominee’s early writings include a 1996 article entitled ‘Destabilizing Power in Rape: Why Consent Theory in Rape Law Is Turned on Its Head.’ There Kasubhai approvingly discussed the radical professor Catharine MacKinnon’s theory ‘that sexuality itself is a power web in which heterosexual relations per se are infused with violence and control.'”
A federal courthouse in Oregon was firebombed in the 2020 riots. When questioned during his confirmation hearing, Mustafa Khasubai refused to describe the violence and property damage in Eugene, Oregon, as a “riot.”
Putting progressive judges on the bench means you lose your freedom of speech, as progressives come up with creative excuses for censoring you.
Progressive judges on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a professor could be punished for lack of collegiality for criticizing woke “diversity” policies that focus on race and gender rather than merit. That was an egregious case of ideological double standards: The progressive judges did that even though courts have allowed leftists to say very uncivil things, like praising the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan.
Progressive judges on the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a student could be banned from wearing a “There Are Only Two Genders T-Shirt” under a hate-speech ban, even though 62% of all Americans think there are only two genders, and even though the First Amendment has been held to protect insulting messages disseminated by leftist students, such as buttons expressing hostility toward their substitute teachers who had replaced strikers. This is part of a series of rulings by that progressive court restricting the rights of students, citizens, and religious speakers.
Progressive judges on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a court ruling that New York state violated the free-speech rights of a public employee who advocated time limits on welfare benefits, even though the First Amendment obviously protects expressing opposition to expansive welfare benefits.
