I wasn’t aware that medical laboratories performed surgery, but the owner of Aspen Laboratories in Colorado this week cut off her nose to spite her face.
According to the Aspen Daily News, Suzanna Lee, notified conservative commentator Candace Owens on Tuesday that her appointment for a COVID test had been canceled. The reason for the cancelation? Owens’s political views.
In the email Owens received, which follows, Lee explains, “We cannot support anyone who pro-actively [sic] worked to make this pandemic worse by spreading misinformation, politicizing and DISCOURAGING the wearing of masks and actively dissuading people from receiving life-saving vaccinations.”
I don’t personally agree with everything Owens has said about the pandemic — as a guest on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” last night Owens appeared to express doubt as to whether COVID is “real” and a “deadly virus.” But refusing her treatment is tantamount to medical malpractice.
One would expect that Suzanna Lee would be eager to test scoffers and believers alike in the hopes of lessening the spread of infection. But instead she shoots herself in the foot a second time by advising Owens that another local testing option is a “free kiosk by city hall,” then adds, presumably to dissuade her from that option, that the facility, which mails its tests to Texas, produces “inconsistent results” and is in a “back alley.”
The ultimate irony is that Lee, who in essence accuses Owens of politicizing the pandemic, is herself politicizing it.
The whole episode embodies cancel culture on steroids.
