Democrats are doing their best to pretend that the dire situation in Afghanistan, which grew immeasurably more dire with the yesterday’s deadly explosion at Hamid Karzai Airport in Kabul, will just blow over. Yesterday, the Democratic National Committee put out a press release announcing “Biden defies expectations again, delivers results in Afghanistan.” Far-left reporters like The American Prospect’s Robert Kuttner are doing their part to put a happy face on a grave situation.
We hope sincerely that Attorney General Antony Blinken’s faith in the Taliban to “do the right thing” bears fruit. But in the event it doesn’t — if in fact the “worst” happens (feel free to substitute your own most nightmarish imaginings) — let’s hope the nation has the strength and courage to come together at last and unite against the scourge that confronts us.
