In his speech in Tulsa on Tuesday, newly minted hyperprogressive Joe Biden once again declared that terrorism from white supremacy is a bigger threat to the homeland than ISIS or al Qaeda, citing “the intelligence community” as his source. At one point in his latest diatribe, the unifier-in-chief took a detour down memory lane to emphasize to his audience just how racist the country that elected him is. “If my memory is correct,” he can be heard saying in the video that follows, “there were 37 members of the House of Representatives who were open members of the Klan. There were five members of the United States Senate, open members of the Klan.”
“Most people don’t realize it,” he continued. “Millions of white Americans belonged to the Klan and they weren’t even embarrassed by it. They were proud of it. That hate became embedded systematically and systemically in our laws and culture.”
To listen to Biden’s lamentations over the “soul of the nation,” you’d never guess that he was close enough to two of those racist senators to deliver the eulogy at their funerals. One that has been chronicled elsewhere in these pages was Sen. Robert Byrd, who, apart from being a Klan member, is famous for his 14-hour-and-13-minute filibuster in 1964. The piece of legislation he was looking to quash was the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Byrd also cast a no vote on the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and voted against the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The other bigot who Biden praised following his death was Sen. Ernest Hollings of South Carolina, who died in 2019. During Hollings’s term as governor, the Confederate battle flag was flown above the South Carolina State House underneath the U.S. and state flags. Hollings publicly referred to blacks as “darkies” and Hispanics as “wetbacks” without suffering any punishment from his party.
Lest anyone think that Biden was himself free of any sin, he pitched his 1993 crime bill by identifying the “enemy” as a “cadre of young people, tens of thousands of them, born out of wedlock, without parents, without supervision, without any structure, without any conscience developing because they literally … because they literally have not been socialized, they literally have not had an opportunity. We should focus on them now” because “if we don’t, they will, or a portion of them, will become the predators 15 years from now.” He went on to add:
The consensus is we must take back the streets. It doesn’t matter whether or not the person that is accosting your son or daughter or my son or daughter, my wife, your husband, my mother, your parents, it doesn’t matter whether or not they were deprived as a youth. It doesn’t matter whether or not they had no background that enabled them to become socialized into the fabric of society. It doesn’t matter whether or not they’re the victims of society. The end result is they’re about to knock my mother on the head with a lead pipe, shoot my sister, beat up my wife, take on my sons.
One last detail that Biden conveniently overlooked in his statistics on Klan membership in Congress. All of the members were Democrats.
