Dementia watch: Again, Joe Biden refers to himself as ‘Joe Biden’s husband’

Is this some sort of running gag that most Americans aren’t in on, and, if so, shouldn’t the Democratic nominee let us all in on it?

I am referring to Biden introducing himself as “Joe Biden’s husband.” ABC News seems to think it’s perfectly normal. Watch:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The joke or symptom of cognitive decline came at the end of last night’s Democratic Convention. Biden entered a school classroom where his wife, was waiting for him — a perhaps unintended reminder that the title “doctor” so frequently appended to Jill Biden’s name represents a doctorate in education. As for the curious “husband” comment, Heavy reports that some viewers claim they heard the former vice president say “I’m Joe Biden’s husband” while others insist he said, “I’m Jill Biden’s husband.”

My strong suspicion that he said the former is based on a video of a virtual rally from July in which he again said, “I’m Joe Biden’s husband, Joe Biden.” On that occasion, his wife was not present as he spoke.

What suggests this may be some kind of private joke is an inaudible stretch in the earlier recording that sounds a bit like “As Lily already indicated.” Maybe Lily, whoever she is, is in on the “joke.”

On the other hand, it is entirely possible that this utterance is further evidence of a descent into dementia that is apparent in other things Biden has said and his frequent lapses of memory.
