What on Earth was she thinking? How dare she! as Greta Thunberg might expostulate. As a member herself of a protected class, hasn’t she heard of cultural appropriation?
As Forbes reports considering playing the role of a transgender man was not Halle Berry’s only sin:
Berry received criticism on social media for misgendering the character multiple times throughout the interview using the pronouns “woman” [sic] “she” and “her” to describe a character who transitioned and calling it a “female story.”
On Monday night, the fog evidently lifted long enough for Berry to deliver a mea culpa on Twitter that included all the “right” words to demonstrate she is a social justice warrior in good standing. She identified herself as “cisgender” — which in case you weren’t aware is admitting you’re flawed much like people whose skin is white (ugh!). She also vowed to be an “ally.” That’s “a person who uses their [sic] privilege to advocate on behalf of someone else who doesn’t hold that same privilege.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

In committing her crime, Berry fell out of step with a larger social-cleansing imitative that has been part of America’s reawakening in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death. In late June, the long-running adult cartoon series “The Simpsons” announced it would no longer hire white actors play non-white characters. Earlier this month, San Francisco revealed it would stop releasing mug shots out of political sensitivity.
