Donald Trump sends Chuck Schumer a much-deserved smackdown letter

Ever since Donald Trump was inaugurated, New York Sen. Chuck Schumer has been doing all he can to obstruct the president or try to make him look bad. On Thursday, he sent an open letter to Trump berating him for his putative dereliction on matters related to the war on coronavirus.

In his letter, Schumer claimed it was “long past the time” to name a senior military officer to lead the effort. He also berated the president for not using the Defense Production Act “to complete and rapidly implement a plan for the increased production, procurement and distribution of critically-needed medical devices and equipment.”

The president responded with a letter of his own that was pure Trump counter-punch. The main thrust of the letter was to inform the senator that he must not be paying attention because most of the items on his to-do list had already been done.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

For example, the president appointed a senior military leader in Rear Admiral John Polowczyk. The appointment was made in fact two weeks ago, and Schumer was briefed on it.

Trump’s letter — which begins memorably with the salutation “Dear Senator, thank you for your incorrect sound bites” — follows.
