Talk about eating your cake and having it, too!
Meet Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), whose bio at the Jewish Virtual Library reveals that after receiving his B.A. in industrial engineering from Northwestern University, he took a hiatus to work on a kibbutz in Israel. That’s the sort of thing that a writer at the Daily Beast is citing as evidence that new Hall of Fame inductee Mariano Rivera is a right-wing bigot.
But Schneider’s Jewish activism doesn’t stop there. He has served on the Jewish United Fund and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. If that’s not proof of his commitment to Judaism and the Jewish state, he has even come out against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which is currently dividing the Democratic caucus.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Schneider was a guest on CNN recently where he was asked how if he consider BDS to be bigoted, he does not consider fellow Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar anti-Semitic for supporting it. His answer, which may be viewed in the video that follows, is interesting.
Notice that he will not come out and label Tlaib an anti-Semite even though he describes BDS as “anti-Semitic in intent,” adding:
The expression of BDS — what we see on college campuses — the intent to create harassment, a hostile environment for supporters of Israel on college campuses, to make it difficult for companies that are doing business with Israel … that is by its very nature anti-Semitic. The movement itself uses anti-Semitic memes.
It sure must be difficult being a Democrat at this point in time.
