According to the current RealClear Politics average among Democratic candidates for president, Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee is tie with Montana Gov. Steve Bullock at 0.8% each. Inslee’s chances of becoming the Democratic nominee, much less the president, are slim. But that hasn’t stopped him from naming his first cabinet appointment in the event he does win.
Speaking Saturday at the far-left Netroots Nation conference, Inslee said:
My first act will be to ask Megan Rapinoe to be my secretary of state. I haven’t asked her yet so this could be a surprise to her.
I actually believe this because what I think what she has said that has inspired us so much is such an antithesis of the president’s foreign policies.
I assume his reference is to something that the soccer star, who is a lesbian, has said about LGBTQ rights, not the to the many f-bombs she has dropped since winning the World Cup.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
But maybe after all is said and done, Inslee is setting his sights too low. In a poll conducted this past week, Rapinoe edged out Donald Trump 42% to 41% in a hypothetical presidential race. Then again, maybe not. In an interview on Tuesday, Rapinoe told MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, “My girlfriend actually just said, she’s like, you need to be careful. They’re gonna ask you to run for president. You need to slow your roll.”
