The Left has accused President Trump on more than one occasion of behaving “unpresidentially.” It’s hard to argue that Trump isn’t unorthodox in the way he comports himself, and even the way he expresses himself stands in sharp contrast to previous presidents.
Yet, if Trump is guilty of being unpresidential, then Democrats are guilty of failing to show him the deference and respect he deserves as the current title holder.
This was evident in Nancy Pelosi’s announcement on Monday that she would not vote to impeach Trump, explaining that “impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path.” Then she gratuitously added, “He’s just not worth it,” which revealed more about her than it did about Trump.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Another even more blatant example of this crassly disrespectful behavior was manifested in the comments by one of Congress’s newest and most controversial figures, Rep. Ilhan Omar, when she was asked by a reporter with Fox News about her recent unkind words for Barack Obama. Correspondent Guerin Hays asked Omar whether she viewed Obama in the same way she did Trump. At first, she ignored the reporter, but when he pressed the question, she finally responded:
Absolutely not. That is silly even to think and equate the two. One is human, the other is not.
Fox News’ Guerin Hays asks Ilhan Omar about last week's Politico article: “Do you think President Obama is the same as President Trump?”
Omar: “Absolutely not. … One is human the other is not”
