Media provides glowing coverage of violent Antifa

Earlier, Liberty Unyielding covered an Antifa attack on a Washington Post reporter who was covering their protest. Left-wing radicals in Antifa attacked her even though she was sympathetic to some of Antifa’s left-wing positions, and even though a like-minded colleague at The Post had chided others in the press for articles that focused on the violence of Antifa, rather than giving voice to its “ideology” and “goals.” This was far from the first time that Antifa had attacked a reporter covering its activities.

Even as Antifa radicals attack bystanders and journalists covering their violence, some journalists persist in giving Antifa favorable coverage.

As Candice Malcolm recently observed in the Toronto Sun, “Antifa, encouraged by the media, grows by spreading fear and paranoia.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

As Malcolm points out:

[B]ecause Antifa has its own agenda — they believe in communism, anarchy, open borders and street fighting — they remain active and constantly organize protests.

They hate the police, the media and conservatives with equal scorn.

Despite this open hostility, CBC, CNN, and many other biased news outlets have provided glowing coverage of Antifa. CBC once did a friendly interview with the author of an Antifa political handbook, where the the author repeatedly justified violence while the host nodded along.

It is foolish for journalists to sympathetically portray Antifa when they themselves could end up being the next victims of its violence. But this is what some leading journalists do. As this blog earlier noted, the Washington Post’s designated “Media Columnist” defended a radical professor “who said Antifa’s violence is a ‘legitimate response‘ to opposing views on the Right,” adding:

She lamented the fact that [the professor] was ‘publicly’ criticized ‘by his university president’ for defending its violent activities. Washington Post columnists…are not much troubled by Antifa’s violence, at least as long as it is aimed at ordinary citizens, not the media. The media yawned when an Antifa goon was given probation by a liberal judge after attacking seven people from behind. The Antifa thug hit his victims so hard with a heavy metal bike lock that one person had a piece of his ‘helmet broken off,’ and another suffered a ‘head laceration that required five staples to fix.’
