You’ve all heard of the #MeToo movement, but a secondary initiative that has long run a close second is gaining ground. It might be called the #ThemToo movement, and the forgotten protected class whose rights it is meant to look after are children.
We have seen evidence of it in stories like this one highlighting a debate among Delaware lawmakers over whether to allow 5-year-olds to choose their own gender, race, and even name — and without their parents’ knowledge.
Not all of the #ThemTooers have birthdays in single digits. Several years back, the town of Brattleboro, Vt., entertained the idea of lowering the voting age to 16, a notion that recently gained traction among liberals impressed with the obvious brain power of teen puppet David Hogg.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Now a new manifestation of the #ThemToo movement has come to the fore that argues on behalf of consensual diaper changing. The Mirror reports:
A sexuality expert has said parents should ask babies for their permission before changing their nappies in order to set up a culture of consent from birth.
Where would we be without experts? This particular expert is named Deanne Carson, she has purple hair (that’s how you know she’s an expert), and she describes herself as a “sexuality educator, speaker and author.”
In an appearance on ABC Australia, she explained that she works with children from three years and up on issues surrounding consent but recommends that parents “introduce ideas much earlier.” How much earlier? Try at birth.
Far be it from me to question an expert, but there is the matter of hygiene when it comes to dealing with soiled “nappies.” In addition, what if the child is anal-retentive?
Sometimes maybe it is best not to ask.
