Say it ain’t so. Daniel Strauss writing at Politico glumly reports:
President Barack Obama was brutally honest on Thursday: He can’t rap.
“That’s one thing I can’t do is rap,” Obama said during an unexpected visit at the first lady’s “Beating the Odds” event in the East Room, according to a White House pool report. “I like rap, but I can’t rap. I got enough of a rap that I got Michelle to marry me.”
Despite that cataclysmic failing, Obama has redeemed himself repeatedly. Consider for example that the vast majority of entertainers who have performed at the White House in its “In Performance” series have been “of color.” The list of “artists,” moreover, has included such luminaries as the rapper Common, whose “socially conscious” musings have included an ode to cop killer Assata Shakur (aka, Joanne Chesimard).
It was also during Obama’s tenure that the White House celebrated its first poetry slam, And if that’s not enough, his wife recently dedicated a New York art museum by observing that it, like most other cultural institutions in the U.S., are “too white” — a criticism that the president took exception with, indignantly reminding his wife that he is half-white.
Yeah, right, like that’s ever going to happen!
