If most people were asked to select a slogan that was emblematic of the seemingly endless #Ferguson protests, leading candidates would include “Black lives matter” and “Hands up, don’t shoot.” At least these are the sentiments that have appeared on numerous signs, some of them professionally lettered and mass-produced.
But another sign has popped up on the internet that seems to cut to the heart of the matter in a way these others don’t. It is the one being held up in the photograph below by the man in the center. The message, which seems to be perfectly in earnest, reads: “No mother should have to fear for her son’s life every time he robs a store.”
