Barack Obama may have inadvertently walked into a buzz saw when he announced in November that he’s not “stupid enough” to go around saying that signing up for Obamacare would be “like shoppin’ on Amazon or Travelocity.” But Democratic Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, an avid fan of Obama and his health care law, seems to think the American are stupid enough.
Holmes Norton was a guest of MSNBC’s Richard Lui on Monday, where the topic was the disparity between the number of enrollees the administration had expected by this point (3 million) and the actual number (1.1 million), according to figures released over the weekend by the Department of Health and Human Services. The Delaware congresswoman “offered a novel suggestion,” writes Mediaite’s Noah Rothman — viz., that the enrollment numbers fell short because the GOP had successfully convinced the public that the law was repealed. [Emphasis added]
Success, of course, implies that Republicans made a deliberate effort to deceive Americans, which is quite an allegation coming from a member of the party that has used every excuse imaginable for the failures of Obamacare so far, up to and including the claim that White House dog Bo ate the legislation.
Said Holmes Norton:
What we have been battling now is, first, every time the House couldn’t think of anything else to do, it had a big debate on repealing Obamacare. So, there are millions of people out there who think it was repealed. So, there was no way to break through that very easily.
If Holmes Norton’s remarks prove anything at all it is that she, too, is stupid enough to think she can spout such utter nonsense and not get called on it.
